Fresh Products Branch Announces Personnel Changes
AFVISA Computerization Committee To Meet in Texas

     The Fresh Products Branch has announced changes in staffing in some areas impacting BIQMS. Mark Iverson, currently Federal Program Manager for the Central BIQMS territory has accepted a voluntary reassignment to Nampa, Idaho with a tentative reporting date of June 18. It is anticipated at this time that his vacant position will not be filled unless a need develops.
      It has also been announced that the Northeast BIQMS territory and the Mid-Atlantic BIQMS territory will be combined with the Williamston, North Carolina office assuming oversight responsibilities for both territories. The Malta, New York office will be closed and Tom Yawman, currently Federal Program Manager in Malta, has accepted a reassignment to the Standardization Section in Washington, D.C. He is tentatively scheduled to report sometime this summer. Paul Beattie, the other Federal Program Manager in Malta will continue to provide assistance in Hunts Point and will also assist the Field Operations Section in conducting Federal Market Office Checks. Paul will be operating out of his home.

San Antonio, Texas
     The Computerization Committee met April 6 in San Antonio, Texas to discuss a proposed pilot program for the electronic certification of milled peanuts. Shane Brown from USDA/AMS/FPB Fruit and Vegetable Division met with the committee to discuss methods of funding the pilot as well as the information required to effectively monitor program functions from personnel to reports to USDA/AMS. A full report of the committee's activities will be made at the annual meeting in May.
